An Update…

If you asked me a few months ago what I was passionate about, I’d probably say nothing. I used to be a really negative person unable to dream because everything seemed so unattainable. I would talk myself out of trying anything because I was too afraid to fail. But now I know that you have to accept that failure is a part of learning and should only drive you closer to your dreams. I’ve been working really hard and have had a lot of help to change my way of thinking and to be able to realize who I am and what I want out of life. The entire process is truly amazing. Now I seem to have the “problem” of having “too many” things that I am passionate about! I really don’t see it as a problem, I actually see it as a blessing. I now fill my time doing research online, reading, education myself, thinking, dreaming, making a vision board, and sometimes trying to help others to realize how to make this transition from negative to positive. I’m no expert, but I feel having just made this transition it is fresh in my mind and I want so badly to help others realize it’s possible. Sir Ken Robinson has been instrumental in helping me to realize why I am the way I am. I’ll post more on him later.

So in addition to starting massage therapy school on April 10th, I have been focusing on learning more about becoming a lactation consultant and doula. I am also really passionate to learn about attachment parenting, breastfeeding and extended breastfeeding, elimination communication or infant potty training, the family bed, baby sign language, home schooling, and so many other topics related to pregnancy, birthing, and parenting.

My New Adventure

I recently decided to go back to school to become a massage therapist. I’ve always loved getting massages as well as the idea of helping others with alternative medicine. Since I live in New Jersey and work in New York City, I researched all of the local schools near my home and office. Making the appointments to visit the schools and then following through with the visits was a bit scary, but after the first one I became more confident in what I was looking for and what questions to ask. I ended up loving Cortiva Institute in Hoboken, NJ and cannot wait to start on April 10th! I’ll be doing the 600-hour program, which will allow me to work in NJ or any other state requiring 600 hours or less. I opted for a part-time night schedule with class two nights per week and expect to be finished within 18 months. Should I want to be able to work in NY, which requires 1000 hours, I can continue into the 1080-hour program (about 480 additional hours). I’m really excited about this new adventure and will keep you all posted during my journey.

If you’re in the Hoboken area, Cortiva has a massage clinic open to the public with a one-hour swedish massage for only $35 since it is being done by a student. I had one and it really was amazing.
